The dealership and the INDY shop I went to knew nothing about getting my battery registered correctly. I also had 46 error codes stored in the memory and they never went back after fixing the problem and cleared the codes. The second, I mean when Pkathee pushed the register battery button my max AC turned on. I now have a final stage resistor my Indy shop told me to get as a new desk weight. Putting tech2 win into win 7 compatibility mode is not hard to do. Go to the start icon for tech2win, right click it and go to properties, and see if you can click the box and make it run it in win 7 mod. If the box is grayed out and you can not do it this way, click on the Windows icon, type in run in the search box, then find run program made for a previous version of windows in list it will bring out and click on that to open that program. From here, it pretty straight forward to find Tech2 win, and change tech2 win so it running in win 7 compatible mode. There is another way though of getting your 1B file without using an ICOM on an E series through the USB port inside your glovebox accessing the hard drive directly. Rather than going through all those stuff, it is more convenient to just buy the lifetime FSC code and be done with it. I have been using ISTA-D for a few years, but was not able to find there some of the test, like Vanos test for example. The collective wisdom on the fora I was/am registered is that DIS is a better tool for our car, but I never successfully managed to downgrade to DIS. I had a few attempts, at some point even was able to read few errors with DIS, but nothing consistent. At this point I get error 200.159 on my DIS installation, but NCS Expert, ISTA-D, ISTA-P are running fine however on the same laptop with the same cable (SSD by the way).

Yes, there is an INPA update floating around on the net from 2007 that supports some F-Series; F01, F02, F07, F10, F11, F25, and F30. It supports E90s with the N55 engine as well. All of the INPA scripts are German metric. Google INPA FXX. You will also need an ENET cable. None of this is easy per se, but if you invest the time to understand the tools and how they function, it's relatively easy.

Hi all, Here is a relatively simple way to get BMW tools installed on your machine regardless of what windows operating system you're running; it also works on 32 or 64 bit versions. I will tell you up front that this is not my method, but rather BimmerGeek's. Essentially all I've done here is learned his method and compiled some instructions on it.

INPA will work on Win 7 64bit if you install it using Windows XP SP3 Compatibility Mode. However, this is NOT possible with NCSExpert. My point is, if you only care about INPA, you could get away without uploading and running any Virtual Machine. If you want NCSExpert and other BMW program, it is inevitable. Trust me, I have exhausted all possible options. Also, due to recent computer glitch, I have installed and re-installed BMW program tool software over a dozen times already.

ICOM is a lot more stable than dcan cable when it comes to programming. And you are right there are modules that takes hours to finish and any interruption in the process will surely brick that module. You can get a cheap china clone ICOM but finding a refutable vendor selling a good working ICOM is not easy. I’ve been using China ICOM from it’s a good helper in my garage repair work. You can also getrecommendations from others who bought a working clone ICOM.

BimmerGeeks did some nice things on mine where he changed some icons and names to make it look better. He also put all the shortcuts in one folder on the desktop called BMW and added the BMW icon to it. I can put directions up on how to change icons if you need to know.
