I recommend a 'universal' power adapter (typically $12 to $20) that has different tips and power levels. I use these things all the time on older devices without any problem (cordless phones, electric keyboards, radios, etc). Get them at Radio Shack, Best Buy, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. On your current adapter, look at the 'brick' part and it should tell you the OUTPUT volts you will need to set the universal adapter at (usually 9 or 12 v).

Since you have cleaned the lense I will skip that recommendation. I am assuming that you did not use a cleaning cd as they do nothing and many times cause damage to the laser assembly. You should go to my tip to be sure that you have cleaned it properly If you are absolutely sure that the lense is clean and no damage has occurred then you probably have some dried up hard grease on the rails which the laser slides (tracks) on. Clean this stuff off and regrease with a light lubricant and make sure that you do not get any lubricant on anything.
